3-Nitro-4-(2-oxiranylmethoxy)benzonitrile (2.9 g; 13.2 mmol; from step (a) above) was added to a stirred solution of tert-butyl 3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-3-carboxylate (3 g; 13.2 mmol; see Example F above) in IPA:H2O (12.5 mL; 9:1), and the reaction mixture was refluxed for 3 h. Concentration of the reaction mixture and purification by column chromatography (DCM:MeOH; 15:1) gave the title compound in a 54% yield.
