A solution of CBz-Cl (7.7 mL; 54 mmol) in dioxane (5 mL) was added to a cold (0° C.) stirred solution of 2-bromoethylamine hydrobromide (10.0 g; 49 mmol) in 40 mL 1M NaOH:dioxane (3:1) under Schotten-Bauman conditions. The reaction mixture was allowed to attain rt. and extracted with CHCl3. The organic layer was separated, concentrated and purified by column chromatography (CHCl3) to give the sub-title compound in a 92% yield.
