Mesylchloride (2.32 mL; 30 mmol) was added to a stirred 0° C. solution of 4-(4-cyanophenoxy)-1-butanol (5.2 g; 29.7 mmol; from step (c) above) and TEA (4.35 mL) in CH2Cl2 (50 mL), and the reaction mixture was stirred for 4 h. H2O (150 mL) was added and the organic layer separated, dried and concentrated to give the sub-title compound which was used without further purification.
