Procedure
1-t-Butoxycarbonyl-4-piperidone (1.69 g, 8.46 mmol), zinc chloride (1.50 g, 11.0 mmol) and 2-aminobenzonitrile (1.0 g, 8.46 mmol) were mixed and then reacted at 90° C. for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature to obtain a solid, which was ground together with toluene and filtered. The thus treated solid was suspended in chloroform and concentrated aqueous ammonia was added thereto and stirred. The chloroform layer was separated, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and then concentrated to obtain the desired compound (0.54 g, 1.8 mmol, 21%).
