A mixture of 20.4 g of 2,6-dichloro-4-trifluoromethylbenzoic acid (11), 18.8 g of thionyl chloride and a small amount of anhydrous N,N-dimethylformamide was stirred at 90° C. overnight. The thionyl chloride was distilled off, and the resulting residue was distilled under reduced pressure to obtain 21.7 g of the desired compound in the form of a colorless liquid (quantitative yield).
