A suspension of 2-ethoxycarbonyl-1-(1-imidazolylmethyl)-7-trifluoromethylimidazo[1,2-a]quinoxalin-4(5H)-one (Example 5) (1.9 g, 4.69 mmol) in hydrobromic acid (48% in water) (100 ml) was stirred at 80° C. for 16 h. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo, and the residue stirred with methanol to give 1.95 g (88%) of the title compound as a HBr salt, which was isolated by filtration.
