A solution of 2-ethoxycarbonyl-1-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)methyl-7-trifluoromethylimidazo[1,2-a]quinoxalin-4(5H)-one (Example 11) (380 mg, 0.87 mmol) in hydrobromic acid (48% in water) (20 ml) was stirred at 80° C. for 30 h. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the residue stirred with ether. The product which was isolated by filtration was recrystallized from methanol/ether to afford 260 mg (57%) of the title compound as a HBr salt. M.p. >240° C.
