A solution of 2-ethoxycarbonyl-1-(1-imidazolylmethyl)-7-trifluoromethylimidazo[1,2-a]quinoxalin-4(5H)-one (Example 5) (1.0 g, 2.5 mmol) in methanol (50 ml) was added hydrazine hydrate (500 μl, 10.3 mmol) in methanol (20 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 16 h and then concentrated in vacuo. The residue was added ether and the solid isolated by filtration to yield 860 mg (88%) of the title compound. M.p. >250° C.
