Procedure
To a solution of sodium (460 mg, 20 mmol) in methanol (10 ml) was added 3-(3-chloro-1,2,5-thiadiazol-4-yl)pyridine (750 mg, 3.8 mmol). The mixturewas stirred at 50° C. for 1 h and evaporated. The residue was dissolved in water and extracted with methylene chloride. The combined organic phases were dried and evaporated to give the title compound, whichcrystallized with petroleum ether in a 630 mg (86%) yield.
