Procedure
To a solution of sodium (290 mg, 12.5 mmol) in n-butanol (10 ml) was added 3-(3-chloro-1,2,5-thiadiazol-4-yl)pyridine (490 mg, 2.5 mmol). The mixturewas stirred at 25° C. for 18 h and evaporated. The residue was dissolved in water and extracted with methylene chloride. The combined organic phases were dried and evaporated to yield 580 mg (100%) of the title compound.
