Procedure

Tetramethylammonium hydroxide pentahydrate (1.7 g, 9.4 mmol) was added to asolution of the title product of Example 1 (2.0 g, 8.7 mmol) in 45 mL of anhydrous acetonitrile. After stirring for 4 hours at room temperature, methyl iodide (0.6 mL, 9.6 mmol) was added and the resulting milky solution stirred at room temperature. The solvent was removed by rotary evaporator and partioned between diethyl ether and water. The organic phase was washed with brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to give the title compound (2.1 g) as a pale yellow liquid. The structure was supported by NMR, infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis and mass spectroscopy.
