Procedure
A solution of 4-(2,2-difluoropent-4-enamido)-1-(t-butoxycarbonyl)piperazine (Example 16, step b) (5.0 g, 16.4 mmol) in 10 ml dichloromethane was treated with 2 ml trifluoroacetic acid. The reaction was concentrated after 24 hours, basified to pH 9 using 4N sodium hydroxide and extracted into dichloromethane. The organic extracts were dried (MgSO4) and concentrated to give 4-(2,2-difluoropent-4-enamido)piperazine as a yellow oil. δH (250 MHz, CDCl3) 2.83-3.01 (6H, m), 3.59-3.63 (2H, t, J=10 Hz), 3.67-3.71 (2H, t, J=10 Hz), 5.23 (1H, s), 5.27-5.30 (1H, d, J=7.5 Hz), 5.79-5.95 (1H, m).
