Procedure

A solution of 2.5 g (0.10.1 mM) of 4-Amino-5-(1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-3-yl)-pentanoic acid methyl ester was dissolved in 20 mL of ethyl acetate. To this solution was added 20 mL of 1N sodium carbonate, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 6 hours. The ethyl acetate layer was dried and evaporated. The residue was chromatographed on silica using 95:5 CHCl3 :CH3OH to yield 1.48 g of product as a white crystalline solid. MP=160-162° C. NMR (CDCl3) δ11.4 (s, 1H), 8.05 (m, 1H), 7.85 (d, 1H), 7.45 (s, 1H), 7.18 (s, 1H), 6.95 (m, 1H), 4.0 (m, 1H), 2.8-3.0 (m, 2H), 2.2-2.4 (m, 3H), 1.85 (m, 1H). 13C NMR (CDCl3) 178.6,148.9, 142.4, 127.0, 123.6, 120.1, 115.3, 109.8, 55.2, 32.6, 30.3, 26.8. Mass Spectrum: m/e=216 (p+1).
