Procedure
3(S)-Carboethoxy-7-phenyl-2-(1-(4-cyanobenzyl)-5-imidazolylmethyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (150 mg, 0.32 mmol) from Example 21 was dissolved in THF (3 mL) and treated with LiBH4 (13.7 g, 0.64 mmol). The solution was heated at 50° C. for 3 h then quenched with 1N HCl and extracted with EtOAc (3×), washed with brine, dried and evaporated. The residue was purified by preparative HPLC (gradient elution with water/acetonitrile containing 0.1% TFA), the product neutralized and converted to the HCl salt using 1N HCl in ether to give the title compound as a white solid.
