A mixture of 17.03 g (0.1 mol) of 3,3-bis-methylmercapto-2-cyano-acrylonitrile, 12.94 ml (0.1 mol) of 4-ethoxy-aniline and 60 ml of ethanol is heated under reflux for 2 hours. Then, with stirring, 120 ml of diethyl ether are added dropwise to the reaction mixture, which is at approx. 30° C. The reaction mixture is then cooled to 0° C. The title compound precipitates in the form of colorless crystals and is filtered off, washed with diethyl ether and dried under a HV; m.p. 141-142° C.
