Procedure

A solution of the ester 15-7 (0.038 g, 0.073 mmol) in EtOH/H2O (4.5 mL/0.5 mL) was treated with LiOH (0.009 g, 0.365 mmol) and the homogeneous solution stirred at room temperature for 4 h. The solution was concentrated to a solid residue which was dissolved in H2O and purified by preparative HPLC (gradient conditions: 95:05 to 50:50 H2O/MeCN with 0.1% TFA) to give the acid 15-8 as a white solid (as the bis-trifluoroacetate salt).
