Procedure
75 g of 4-pyridylacetic acid hydrochloride are treated with 750 ml of glacial acetic acid (50% strength), 6 g of platinum dioxide are added and the mixture is hydrogenated at 3 bar and room temperature in the course of 3 hours. The catalyst is filtered off with suction and the mother liquor is concentrated to dryness in vacuo. The residue is triturated with acetone and filtered off with suction. It is washed twice with acetone and once with ether.
