By substituting an equivalent amount of 3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-4-phenyl-1-benzazocin-2(H)-one, m.p. 188°-189° (prepared as described in Example 1 of U.S. patent application, Ser. No. 418,910, filed Dec. 16, 1964), for the 2,3-dihydro-2-phenyl-1,5-benzothiazepin-4-one in part (A) of Example 1 and carrying out the precedure of the Example, there is obtained N-(2-dimethylaminoethyl)-1,2,3,4,5,6-hexahydro-N-methyl-4-phenyl-benzazocine-1carboxamide hydrochloride.
