Procedure

383 mg of [8α-(3,3-diethylureido)-6-methylergolin-12-yl]carboxylic acid amide (1 mmol) is dissolved in 25 ml of chloroform, 3 ml of phosphorus oxychloride is added thereto, and the mixture is agitated for 16 hours at 55° C. The mixture is poured on ice, allowed to stand for 30 minutes, then made alkaline with 1N potassium hydroxide solution, and extracted with methylene chloride. The organic phase is dried with sodium sulfate and evaporated. The residue is crystallized from ethyl acetate in a 43% yield. [α]D =+16° (0.5% in chloroform).
