0.15 mol of 5-amino-1-methoxy-5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphthalene hydrochloride is heated at a bath temperature of 125° C. in 75 ml of aqueous 48% strength HBr for 3 hours. The mixture is evaporated, the residue is dissolved in a little ethanol and the products are precipitated as the hydrobromides by addition of ether. Yield: 80% of theory; melting point: 152° C.
