(1R,2R)-2-(1-methylhydrazino)-1-indanol (1.45 g, 8.1 mmol, prepared from (1R,2R)-2-methylamino-1-indanol (1.63 g, 10 mmol) according to Example 1) was treated with an equivalent amount of maleic acid in a mixture of EtOH and Et2O to give crystalline hydrogenmaleate salt which was filtered off and recrystallized.
