A mixture of 2-allyl-phenol (10 g, 74.5 mmol), ethyl 2-bromoacetate (12.4 mL, 112 mmol) and cesium carbonate (36.5 g, 112 mmol) in DMF (180 mL) was heated at 60° C. overnight. The mixture was cooled and filtered through a pad of celite. The filtrate was diluted with water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were washed with water, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated. The crude material was purified by column chromatography on silica gel to give 14.5 g of title compound. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) • 7.19˜7.14 (m, 2H), 6.97˜6.92 (m, 1H), 6.73 (d, J=8.1 Hz, 1H), 6.09˜5.95 (m, 1H), 5.11˜5.02 (m, 2H), 4.54 (s, 2H), 4.26 (q, J=7.2 Hz, 2H), 3.46 (d, J=6.8 Hz, 2H), 1.29 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 3H).
