Procedure
Methyl 8-hydroxy-5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphthalene-1-carboxylate (see Tetrahedron, 53, 15969-15982; (1990)) (5.029 g, 32.63 mmol) was heated under reflux in a solution (80 ml) of 10% hydrogen chloride in methanol overnight. The solvent of the reaction solution was evaporated under reduced pressure. The obtained residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate=6/1) to give the objective substance.
