To a solution of methyl 4-[(4-{(1RS,2SR)-2-[(6,7-dihydro-5H-benzo[a][7]annulen-1-ylcarbonyl)amino]-1-hydroxy-3-[3-(1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethoxy)phenyl]propyl}phenoxy)methyl]-benzoate (260 mg, 0.384 mmol) in methanol (10 ml) was added 2N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (0.38 ml, 0.76 mmol), and the mixture was stirred at 60° C. overnight. The reaction solution was acidified with 1N hydrochloric acid and extracted with ethyl acetate (100 ml×2). The extract was washed with water and saturated brine, dried (anhydrous magnesium sulfate) and evaporated under reduced pressure. Recrystallization of the residue from ethyl acetate-hexane gave the objective substance (209 mg, 82%).
