Procedure

To a stirred suspension of 1-{2-[(4-methoxybenzyl)oxy]-6-nitrophenyl}ethanone (0.50 g, 1.659 mmol) in ethanol was added a solution of ammonium chloride (0.10 g, 1.825 mmol) in water (5 mL) followed by iron powder (0.75 g). The mixture was stirred at 100° C. for 1 hr. The reaction mixture was filtrated on Celite®. The filtrate was diluted with ethyl acetate and washed with water. The separated organic phase was washed with brine and dried over Na2SO4, filtrated and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 1-{2-amino-6-[(4-methoxybenzyl)oxy]phenyl}ethanone as a yellow solid (0.790 g, yield; 108%). The residue was used for the next step without further purification. [Starting Compound 1I]
