2-Fluoro-3-(2-oxopyrrolidin-1-yl)-5-trifluoromethylbenzoic acid methyl ester (D24) in dioxane (10 ml) was treated with 1M LiOH solution (1.75 ml) and stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The dioxane was then removed under vacuum and dil. NaHCO3 and ethyl acetate were added. The aqueous phase was separated, washed with ethyl acetate, acidified with 1M HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic extract was washed with brine, dried over MgSO4 and evaporated to dryness to afford the title compound
