Procedure

Into 20 ml of ethanol was dissolved 0.50 g of 4-diphenylmethoxy-1-[3-(2-methanesulfonylaminophenoxy)propyl]piperidine obtained in Example 1 (c), and 0.13 ml of 36% HCl was added dropwise to the resultant solution with cooling and stirring. The mixture was dried under reduced pressure to form a solid. The residue was recrystallized from isopropyl alcohol to give 0.43 g of the desired compound.
