Procedure
7.6 g of 3-chloro-4-(4-nitrophenyl)butan-2-one and 4.5 g of N-carboxymethylthiourea (NH2CSNHCH2COOH) are dissolved in 100 ml of ethanol and refluxed for 12 hours. The reaction medium is concentrated and the residue is recrystallized from isopropanol to give 9.5 g of ethyl (4-methyl-5-(4-nitrobenzyl)thiazol-2-yl)aminoacetate.
