2 g (7.2 mmol) of 2-amino-5-(4-nitrobenzyl)-4-propylthiazole in 2.5 ml of acetic anhydride, in the presence of 88 mg of 4-dimethylaminopyridine (0.72 mmol), are heated at 80° C. for 1 hour. As the reaction mixture is cooled, the formation of a precipitate is observed. This is filtered off and washed with ether to give 1.6 g of the derivative 2-acetamido-5-(4-nitrobenzyl)-4-propylthiazole, which is pale yellow solid melting at 170° C.
