A stirred suspension of 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid (34 g, 197 mmol) in dichloromethane (170 ml) at 0° was treated dropwise with 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-4-methylquinoline (23.7 g, 161 mmol) in dichloromethane (30 ml), warmed to room temperature, washed with 1N-NaOH (3×200 ml), and extracted with dichloromethane (5×150 ml). The extracts were dried (MgSO4) and evaporated in vacuo to give the product (21 g) as an oil.
