Procedure
7,8-Dimethoxyisoquinoline (3.2 g, 16.9 mmol) in a mixture of 47% HBr (30 ml) and acetic acid (30 ml) was heated under reflux overnight. After cooling the product crystallized out from the reaction mixture as yellow needles. The crystals were collected by filtration to yield 2.5 g (Yield 61%) of the HBr salt. MP 243°-14 245° C.;
