A solution of tert-butyl mesitylsulfonyloxycarbamate (3 g, 9.5 mmol) in trifluoroacetic acid (7 mL) was stirred at 10° C. for 40 min, then poured into ice/water (10 mL) and the resulting solid was collected by filtration. The solid was dissolved in DCM (12 mL), dried over Na2SO4, and filtered. The solution containing O-(mesitylsulfonyl)hydroxylamine was used without further purification.
