To 4.30 g (13.9 mmol) 6-Ethoxy-3′,4′,5′,6′-tetrahydro-2′H-[3,4]bipyridinyl-1′-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (VII.1) in 10 mL EtOAc are added 120 mL 4N HCl in EtOAc. The mixture is stirred for 12 h at rt. After that time, the solvent is evaporated to yield the desired product.
