Procedure
A solution of N′-(imino(3-iodo-4-methylphenyl)methyl)cyclopropanecarbohydrazide (preparation 51c, 0.76 g, 2.2 mmol) in phosphorus oxychloride (10 mL) was heated in a sealed tube at 110° C. with stirring. After 14 hours, the mixture was cooled and concentrated in vacuo. Ethyl acetate and saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate solution were added to the residue. The organic layer was dried (MgSO4) and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (2:1 hexanes/ethyl acetate) to give the title compound (0.14 g, 20%) as a white solid.
