Procedure
A solution of 3-bromo-11-oxo-7,8,9,11-tetrahydro-6H-pyrido[2,1-b]quinazolin-8-yl 4-bromobenzenesulfonate (0.5 g, 0.98 mmol, 1.1 equiv) and K2CO3 in MeOH (100 mL) was stirred at reflux for two hours. After it was cooled to room temperature, the reaction mixture was diluted with water and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×100 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4. After filtration and concentration, the residue was purified by silica gel chromatography to give the desired product.
