To a suspension of (R)-quinuclidin-3-yl 2-amino-2-phenylacetate dihydrochloride (I25) (110 mg, 0.33 mmol) in DCM (5 ml), were added triethylamine (138 μl, 0.99 mmol) and ethyl carbonochloridate (38 μl, 0.40 mmol). The reaction was stirred at RT for 4 hours, and then solvent was evaporated. EtOAc was added, and the organic phase was washed with water and brine, dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated to obtain (R)-quinuclidin-3-yl 2-(ethoxycarbonylamino)-2-phenylacetate (60 mg; 55% yield). The product was used as such in the next step.
