A solution of tert-butyl(3aR,6aS)-5-(hydroxymethyl)hexahydrocyclopenta[c]pyrrole-2(1H)-carboxylate (2.24 g) (WO 2006/14325 A2, 2006) in 4N hydrogen chloride/ethyl acetate (10 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr. The reaction mixture was concentrated to give the title compound (1.65 g).
