To a solution of (5Z)-5-({1-[2,4-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzyl]piperidin-4-yl}methylidene)-4-{[2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl]amino}-1,3-thiazol-2(5H)-one (7.86 g) in tert-butyl methyl ether (70 mL) was added dropwise a solution of 4N hydrogen chloride/ethyl acetate (3.74 mL), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr. The precipitate was collected by filtration, and the obtained solid was recrystallized from ethanol/heptane to give the title compound (5.63 g).
