At RT, 100 mg (0.17 mmol) of 2-chloro-6-({(2-(4-chlorophenyl)-1,3-thiazol-4-ylmethyl}sulfanyl)-4-(4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)phenyl)pyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile (Example 2A) and 0.17 ml (0.33 mmol) of ethylamine (2M solution in THF) were stirred in 2 ml of THF for 30 min. Another 0.17 ml (0.33 mmol) of ethylamine (2M solution in THF) was then added, and the mixture was stirred at RT for 2 h. About 15 ml of water were added to the reaction mixture, and the precipitate formed was filtered off, washed with water and dried under high vacuum. This gave 81 mg (89% of theory) of the desired target compound.
