A mixture of 6-bromo-N-(3-fluorobenzyl)pyridin-2-amine (2.0 g, 7.11 mmol), 5-chloro-2-fluoropyridin-4-ylboronic acid (1.996 g, 11.38 mmol), PdCl2(dppf).CH2Cl2 adduct (0.465 g, 0.569 mmol), DME (27 ml), and 2M sodium carbonate (9.25 ml, 18.50 mmol) reaction mixture was stirred at about 100° C. for 3 hours. The crude mixture was cooled to room temperature, diluted with 25 ml ethyl acetate and 20 ml methanol, filtered and concentrated to yield crude residue. The crude residue was purified by silica gel chromatography using a 120 g column, eluting from 0%-20% ethyl acetate with hexane. The desired fractions were concentrated to constant mass, to yield 1.259 grams of titled compound as free base, which was used in the next step without further purification. LCMS (m/z): 332.2 (MH+), retention time=0.92 min.
