Procedure

To a solution of (S)—N-benzyl-1-fluoro-3,3-dimethylbutan-2-amine (4.12 g, 19.68 mmol) in methanol (50 mL) was added 10% palladium on carbon (2.095 g, 1.968 mmol). The reaction mixture was shaken under H2 atmosphere (60 Psi) for 24 h, a 1.25 M solution of HCl in ethanol (31.5 mL, 39.4 mmol) was added. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h. The solid was filtered through Celite, washed with methanol. The filtrate was concentrated to give the title compound (3.1 g). 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 0.96 (s, 9H), 3.11-3.20 (m, 1H), 4.55-4.82 (m, 2H), 8.26 (s, 3H).
