Procedure

4-{7-Chloro-1-[2-methyl-4-(2-methylbenzoylamino)benzoyl]-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-benzo[b]azepin-5-yloxycarbonyl}butyric acid (0.30 g, 0.53 mmol) was dissolved in acetone (2 ml). A sodium hydrogen carbonate (45 mg, 0.53 mmol) aqueous solution (2 ml) was added thereto and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was concentrated, and the residue was washed with ethyl acetate and then air-dried to obtain 0.14 g (45%) of sodium 4-{7-chloro-1-[2-methyl-4-(2-methylbenzoylamino)benzoyl]-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-benzo[b]azepin-5-yloxycarbonyl}butyrate as amorphous.
