A mixture of sodium triacetoxyborohydride (1.143 g, 5.39 mmol), (R)-tert-butyl 2-amino-3-methylbutanoate hydrochloride (1.131 g, 5.39 mmol) and DCM (20 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 10 min. The reaction mixture was cooled to 0° C. 5-fluoro-4-formyl-1-tosyl-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine-3-carboxylate (1.299 g, 3.60 mmol) was added and the reaction was stirred at 0° C. for 20 min to afford the title compound.
