Procedure

To a solution of 1-(4-methoxybenzyl)-3-methyl-5-(1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine (107) (60 mg, 0.179 mmol) dissolved in chloroform (10 mL) was added trifluoroacetic acid (5 mL) and the reaction mixture was heated at 50° C. for 12 h. After completion of the reaction the solvents were removed and diluted with cold water, pH was adjusted to 8 and the aqueous phase extracted with chloroform two times. The organic layer was washed with brine solution and dried over sodium sulphate and the solvents were removed. The crude was passed through 100-200 mesh silica gel eluting the compound at 80% ethyl acetate in hexane as pale yellow solid 3-methyl-5-(1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine
