Procedure
To a solution of 2.2 g (0.022 moles) triethylamine in 75 ml dimethoxyethane, 5 g (0.018 moles) 1-methyl-3,4-dichloro-5-(2-chloroethylsulfonyl)pyrazole were added. The reaction mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for about one hour and then heated to reflux and refluxed about 2 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered, and the filtrate was stripped to give a yellow oil. The oil was chromatographed on silica gel eluting with methylene chloride yielding a thick oil which crystallized upon cooling with dry ice. Recrystallization from methylene chloride-hexane gave the product as a white solid, melting point 66°-69° C.
