Procedure

5 g of the 1-(1-methyl-3-phenoxypropyl)piperidine thus obtained was reacted with 30 ml of 40% hydrobromic acid at 150° C. for 7 hours with stirring. The reaction solution was cooled, 20 ml of chloroform was added and then the solution separated into two phases, which phases were then separated from each other. The hydrobromic acid was removed under reduced pressure and the residue was recrystallized from 5 ml of ethyl alcohol to give 4.84 g of 1-(1-methyl-3-bromopropyl)piperidine hydrobromide in a yield of 75%.
