Procedure
1-(5-benzyloxymethyl-1,4-oxathian-2-yl)cytosine (0.12 g) was dissolved in methylene chloride (10 ml), and the solution was cooled to -78° C. To the solution, 1M boron trichloride solution (3.7 ml) was added dropwise, and the resultant mixture was stirred at the same temperature for 4 hours. Mixed solvent of methanol-methylene chloride (1/1, 8 ml) was added thereto, and sodium bicarbonate was added to neutralize the reaction mixture. Upon raising the temperature of the reaction mixture to room temperature, the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain white solid.
