Prepared by nitrogenating 4-phenyl-imidazole in concentrated sulphuric acid with ammonium nitrate analogously to Example D (64% of theory; melting point: 220° C.) or by heating ω-bromo-acetophenone in formamide (160° C., 2.5 hours) (53% of theory; melting point: 220-222° C.).
