Procedure
16.5 g (0.05 mol) of 3-benzyl-3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-1- methylindolin-2-one in 250 ml of 2-butanone are stirred under reflux with 20.7 g (0.15 mol) of ground anhydrous potassium carbonate and 17.2 ml (0.15 mol) of 1,4-dibromobutane for 5 hours. The hot mixture is filtered with suction, and the filtrate is concentrated in vacuo. The crystalline residue is triturated with petroleum ether, and the product is isolated after removal of the solvent with suction. 19.3 g of product of melting point 174°-5° C. are obtained.
