1.3 800 ml of 2N NaOH are added to a solution of 150 g of methyl 5-bromo-2,4-dibenzyloxybenzoate in 500 ml of THF, and the mixture is stirred at 50° for 2 hours and subsequently stirred at room temperature for 16 hours. The red alkaline phase is separated off and cooled, and conc. hydrochloric acid is added dropwise to pH 2-3. The precipitated product is separated off and dried, giving 132 g of 5-bromo-2,4-dibenzyloxybenzoic acid.
